Why Choose a Handmade Copper Sink or Basin? Beauty, Craftsmanship and Custom Design
A handmade copper sink or basin is more than a functional object. It is a unique combination of timeless beauty, traditional craftsmanship and the natural properties of pure copper.
Whether you are designing a new kitchen, renovating a bathroom or looking for a distinctive feature for your home, a handcrafted copper sink can bring warmth, character and authentic Italian style into your space.
At **La Casa del Rame**, we create handmade copper sinks and basins using traditional metalworking techniques. Our creations can also be made to order and personalized to meet individual preferences, with the option of a hand-tinned interior using pure tin for suitable designs.
## 1. The Natural Bacteriostatic Properties of Copper
One of copper's most interesting characteristics is its natural antimicrobial activity. Under appropriate conditions, copper surfaces can help reduce the survival of certain bacteria.
This property, often described as bacteriostatic or antimicrobial, has made copper an interesting material in a variety of applications.
However, it is important to understand that the effectiveness depends on factors such as the microorganisms involved, contact time, surface condition and cleaning practices. A copper sink should never replace normal hygiene or regular cleaning.
For this reason, choosing a copper sink means appreciating a material with distinctive natural properties as well as a beautiful appearance.
## 2. Handmade Copper Sinks Crafted in Italy
At La Casa del Rame, we produce handmade copper sinks with care, experience and attention to detail.
We work copper using traditional techniques, shaping and finishing the material by hand to create distinctive pieces that combine functionality and artisanal character.
Unlike mass-produced products, handmade copper sinks may display subtle variations in texture and appearance. These details are part of the character of genuine craftsmanship and make every creation special.
Our aim is to transform copper into a functional object that also expresses the value of Italian handmade artistry.
## 3. Custom-Made Copper Sinks to Suit Your Project
Every kitchen and interior design project has different requirements. That is why a custom-made copper sink can be an excellent choice for people looking for something beyond standard models.
At La Casa del Rame, we can create personalized copper sinks according to the possibilities of each design and project.
Depending on the model, customization may include:
- **Dimensions and proportions** adapted to the available space.
- **Shape and design** selected to complement traditional or contemporary interiors.
- **Surface appearance and finishing** chosen to suit your preferred style.
- **Interior finish options**, including hand-tinning with pure tin for suitable sinks.
Whether you are a homeowner, interior designer or architect, a personalized handmade copper sink offers the opportunity to create a piece that fits your vision.
For a custom project, we recommend discussing the required measurements, installation method and intended use with us before production.
## 4. Hand-Tinned Copper Sinks with Pure Tin
For selected copper sinks, we offer the possibility of a **hand-tinned interior using pure tin**.
Traditional tinning involves applying a layer of tin to the inside surface of the copper. This creates a different interior finish from bare copper and may be preferred for certain designs and intended uses.
The tinning process requires skill and careful workmanship. When carried out by hand, it is another example of the traditional metalworking techniques that give artisanal copper products their distinctive character.
The suitability of a tinned interior depends on the intended application. For sinks used with food, drinking water or other specific purposes, the material composition, finish and applicable safety requirements should always be verified.
